AFS is a distributed filesystem product, pioneered at Carnegie Mellon University and supported and developed as a product by Transarc Corporation (now IBM Pittsburgh Labs).It offers a client-server architecture for file sharing, providing location independence, scalability and transparent migration capabilities for data.IBM branched the source of the AFS product, and made a copy of the source available for community development and maintenance. They called the release OpenAFS. What's New in This Release: · OpenAFS 1.5.69 is the third release of OpenAFS for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 and provides the best user experience for users on all supported Microsoft Windows platforms.
1.4.11 is the recommended release for all other users. Due to data loss issues present in all versions of OpenAFS prior to 1.5.62 and believed to be in IBM AFS, all Windows users are urged to upgrade. · 1.5.69 is also the most recent in the series of releases intended to provide new experimental features including the Demand Attach File Service and Disconnected AFS, on other platforms including acOS X, Linux variants, and UNIX, and includes several bug fixes since 1.5.68.
