The authorities said the judge who presided over Hans Reiser's jury trial is backing a deal to reduce the murder's first-degree conviction to second-degree.
The deal would lower his sentence to 15-to-life from 25-to-life. The plan was hatched after Reiser led authorities to where he his his wife's body, which was discovered Monday in a wooded area about a half mile from his California house.
